8th/9th July 2007, Royal Festival Hall -
The two big evenings of Free Jazz at the Royal Festival Hall in London. On Sunday Cecil Taylor with Anthony Braxton – playing together for the frst time along with William Parker and Tony Oxley, then the Ornette Coleman Quintet with Denardo Coleman, Charnett Moffett, Tony Falanga and Al MacDowell. The opening acts for these were rather disappointing by comparison, although that was probably only down to the aniticipation of the main events.

Great pics
What was the (Haste?) thing with Ingrid Laubrock like? I was going to go to that but was feeling miserable so chickened out…

The Haste thing was very good. It’s only the second time I’ve heard Ingrid Laubrock in a free improv setting (as opposed to her more usual composed stuff), and both times she has really impressed me. They played as a trio, followed by a short John Edwards solo, then a trio again being joined halfway through the second set by Edwards to make a quartet. It was all ensemble playing – Veryan Weston laying down thick piano lines with the sax and strings on top. The whole thig was recorded with professional mic’s onto some very expensive looking recoding gear, so I’m sure we will see it as a CD release before long.
